Not only grossly unqualified, but, according to a wire story in yesterday's paper, she got paid 5 times what some land she owned was worth in an eminent-domain boondoggle. A court ruled that she return a portion of the egregious overpayment, which she has yet to do. 5s. She's the Michael Brown of the judiciary.

Wonderful. I have a girlfriend who knows just as little about Constitutional Law as Harriet "Born again while doing it on a Law Firm Desk" Miers, perhaps she should be the nominee. We certainly don't need bible justice from the bench.

I read in a paper here that you don't even have to be a lawyer to sit on the US Supreme Court, so technically no-one's underqualified. But I guess a more popular chooise would have been Danny Crane, Perry Mason or John Grisham....

The paper is correct, there is no legal qualification to serve on the US Supreme Court. However, there are better choices than the ultra right-wing evangelical Miers - Hillary Clinton. Who is being talked about here? - "He's a vile, detestable, moralistic person with no heart and no conscience who believes he's been tapped by God to do very important things." -- It was actually a White House ally referring to special counsel Patrick Fitzgerald. (and I thought it was a good liberal talking about Dubya.) Hypocritical Republican Culture of Corruption Quote of the Day: "I certainly hope that if there is going to be an indictment . . . it is an indictment on a crime and not some perjury technicality where they couldn't indict on the crime, and so they go to something just to show that their two years of investigation was not a waste." Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Tex) commenting on the Starr inves, ah, sorry, I mean the Fitzgerald investigation into political criminals Rove & Libby.

I'm less amazed at Miers' lack of experience on the bench than I am by her apparent disregard for the Senate's review process. She has provided to senators a galling, gaping hole of background information about her legal influence in the Bush White House. Did she have an opinion about Attroney General Gonzalez's "torture memo"? I'd be interested.

Paul and Art, it's funny that you would use your own lyrics to mean the opposite of what they meant the opposite of in that paean to American malaise, "Mrs. Robinson." It will be funnier still if the Senate chooses not to confirm Ms. Miers.
