The Lyrics

The holidays can be rough, especially when your 'parachute' ain't golden, let alone pewter... Excellent MIDI here. YouTube version of original TV theme song here.
Yuletide!

[~lead-in sung a capella by the AIGettes~]
…shoppin’ shoppin’ shoppin’…
…commerce she’s a droppin’…
…creditors’re flockin’…
…mood is turnin’ rotten…
Yuletide!

[~sung by newly down n' out Rhinestone Cowboy~]
High-end shoppin’s floppin’
Dollar store's a hoppin’
Bach's reduced to Chopin
Yuletide!

Cheaper chaps I’ll weather
Hell bent for—pleather?
Thinkin’ my next buy’s cyanide…

Discount Santas pissin’
All in my face n’ dissin’
Their Christmas jeers keep brissin’
my pride—

Ring ‘em in!
Let ‘em buy!
Move it out!
At a loss!
Reassess!
Repossess!
Subprime!

Mark ‘em down!
Write ‘em off!
Lock ‘em out!
Lay ‘em off!
Re-possess!
What a mess!
YULETIDE!

[~take ‘er up’na half-step~]

Keep wishin’ I was rollin’
More like Babs n’ Brolin
Check book fat n’ swollen
Denied!

My GM stock’s a tankin’
Like run-offs and Al Franken
Soon they’ll take back my
double wide—

Greenspan’s calculatin’
Of Lehman bonds ‘A’ ratin’
Sure up’d the season’s hatin’
worldwide!

Mark ‘em down!
Write ‘em off!
Lock ‘em out!
Lay ‘em off!
Reassess!
Repossess!
Yuletide!

Find a bridge!
Make a dash!
Do a dive!
Make a splash!
Yule forget
your big-debt
YULETIDE!

[~fade out sung by the Lehm-Tones~]
…Circuit City—stoppin’…
…Sharper Image—floppin’…
…Bed-Bath—Beyond rotten…
…Levitz—slashed, Au gratin…
Yule died!

Thanks Tim & alvin for not discounting your scores too heavily! I thought it particularly ironic that today the OS is best known as the Walmart theme (Rollin' back prices)!

I'm not sure I can Handel that rip on the Chopin block, but this was a wild ride through the mall. Happy Christmas, pardner.

I Bach TJ 100% on his poetic license... TMGLTM, but esp. liked "pleather" and "cyanide".... I pity the poor guy who has to evict Rowdy Yates/Clint Eastwood from his double-wide!

Tech note: The reason the OS title didn't get a blue link to other parodies of TOS was the !, which *Is* in the title, but the rest of us lazy ba*turds never bothered with it. Computers are funny that way, but sharp on your part.

Agri: Thanks for the vote and clever commenting! TT: Thanks... and I'm hoping here that TMGLTM doesn't mean 'Too mangley, garbled n' lame to mention'. As to the tech note... how could one possibly have raw hide and *not* append an exclamation?

Too Many Good Lines To Mention, but I think you knew that :) ... Interesting trivia game: are there any other OS with exclamation points in the title? "Oklahoma!" comes to mind, but I think the ! is in only the play's title, not the song's, though I could be mistaken. .... thinking on that should keep you out of trouble for a while ! :D!

Definitely an excellent job of squeezing great lines into few syllables and clever job of capturing the sentiments of December, 2008.

TMGLTM: Thanks for the kindest of clarifications--as to the trivia game... I'm stumped--half the songs I know *should* have exclamation points... pretty much every rap n' speed metal number for sure! AFW: Thanks, nice comment from a Rawhide pro! John: Thank you.. as I always say, go small or go home!

TMGLTM: "Lost!"--Coldplay. "Kill Him!"--The Residents.

Gotta echo TMGLTM .. I particularly like "floppin'/hoppin'/Chopin" despite an because of its pronuciational playfulness with Mr. Etude's surname.

Re the trivia game, I thought maybe "Kids!" from "Bye-Bye Birdie" but a quick check said "Nope ... punctuation appears only in the lyric proper." Shameless plug in confessional form: my take on that OS (http://www.amiright.com/parody/60s/paullyndeleeadamscharlesstrousecomposers0.shtml) does erroneously include titular punctuation. As no commenter at the time remarked on that boner, I invite you to be the first. :-)

Thanks Agri; Stan--thanks! Took a look at Skids! and left, well, an exclamatory comment.
