"Release Me"

The Lyrics

Please release me, let me go
For I can't dangle here no mo
You caught me, now you've had your fun
Release me, I've really got to run

Please release me, can't you see
I was made for swimming free
My gills need water and I'll breathe
Release me, I'm too small, I believe

Other fish are in the sea
Cut the line and set me free
You might catch a 10 pound bass
Release me and neath your boat I'll pass

Please release me, let me swim
It's too soon to reel me in
We might meet again one day
I'll grow up, just let me swim away

Well done - A real 'catchy' tune.

I believe there were several versions of this song way before Engelbert recorded it, and these versions were done in the 1950s. Someone named "Jimmy Heap" recorded it first, but the more famous versions were done by Ray Price and Kitty Wells.
