Original Performer:

Elvis Presly

Parody Song Title:

"It's Good Not Gooder"

Parody Written by:

Lionel Mertens

The Lyrics

It’s good not gooder
You redneck rube
Spare me your drawling
It sounds so crude
Good grammar is not too late
It’s bad not badder
Good speech awaits

When I first heard you
With your drawl so Southern
My heart just shuddered
Your mouth I covered
I got an earful
It left me quite tearful
Like a bad joke
First time you spoke to me

It’s worse not worser
You country cuss
Stop belly achin’
Don’t raise a fuss
Good grammar is not too late
It’s wrong not wronger
Good speech awaits

Just like a parrot
That can speak a beak full
If he talked to you
You’d be like equals
Your lips are violent
Let your mouth be silent
Until you stop
And learn to talk okay

It’s ask not axe me
You ghetto goon
Learn you some english
And make it soon
Good grammar is not too late
It’s best not bestest
Good speech awaits

Topic dear to my heart, as everyone knows... Elvis had an unusually grammatically-correct songwriter: "A Fool Such As I" (vs. the usual "me"), and in 'The Wonder of You", the line .... "you love me AS you do" (vs. "like you do". Unlike the Brooklyn Bridge, "Worst That Could Happen": "Girl, if he loves you more than me"... a very gay-sounding error ("if he loves you more than I [do]). 555

"You’d be like equals" A very well or is it good or maybe even goodly delivered punch line. Some words that really stick in my craw: irregardless, stolded and orientated. I hear people at work of high executive rank but low intellectual calibur use these kinds of words daily. In a meeting once we were informed that the big boss was going to school - I spoke up and said great, he's finally going to get that GED. Woh-dah one and one and one make five.

I hate southern accents of all types, so this parody was amusing to me. Just one problem: Lionel, if you are going to write parodies of Elvis Presley songs, don't forget the "e" in PreslEy. 555 nonetheless.
