The Lyrics

The US federal government continues to cover up its own role inflating the housing bubble before it burst in 2008, instead blaming Wall Street, investment houses and mortgage lending institutions. Freddie Mac and Lehman could also be in my parody based on TOS (except for [5]; Lehman wasn't rescued.)
Fannie insured mortgage lenders,
Oversaw how they did lend.
Swore to be true to its mission,
Rules that it dared not bend.
That was its plan, but would not do for long.

Fannies went down to the bankers,
Told them how loans they should steer;
Said to each fat-cat lender,
Have some underpriv'leged been here?
If so, you can deny but you'd be wrong. [1]

If they're gonna tell you sob stories,
Then you oughta sell them the sky.
I saw one con here half an hour ago,
And he covered well just why
He is poor man, but his future is strong.

Fannies went back to the Congress;
They didn't go to run.
Fannies went back to get approval
Of Barney's looting gun. [2]
He was their man, and he was singing their song.

Fannie hired lawyers pro-bono,
Schooled to perform for the court.
Suit after suit, oft times they brought
Rights through the hard-won tort.
They fought loan ban 'cause it was screwin' poor wrong.

Roll those lenders easy;
Roll those bankers slow.
Money will pull me to the Left's side,
Cause their ballot counts to grow. [3]
I'll be their man so we can all get along.

Rip out your taxpayers' purses;
Roll out your printed greenbacks.
Country's goin' to the graveyard;
Knows heaven when's coming back.
It was their plan that giant banks don't belong. [4]

Then Congress subpoenaed Goldman's
President, railed, capped his pay;
Locked him up in a hearing room
And threw the key away,
For lootin' Goldman was makin' profit that's wrong. [5]

This story has got a moral;
This story has got to end.
This story only goes to show
That they paint the wrong villain.
'Twas not Goldman, but government all along.

[1] Refers to the former practice of redlining neighborhoods.
[2] Representative Frank, chair of House Financial Services Committee.
[3] Reelection is the goal of many social service programs & mandates.
[4] Current reform proposals include government power to limit size.
[5] Increase of 91% over 1Q 2009 was just reported.

Thanks, OMR, I'm glad you're back (from vacation?) and left a comment, unlike the other 75 viewers.

Thanks, Barry. I'm still in exile, but I'll soon return in wrath. ;D
