"In Beverly (Hills, That Is)"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

Thought their land was dry
And then one day he was shootin’ at some food
And up through the ground came a bubblin’ crude
In the country (In the country)

And ol’ Granny cried
Cause if there's one thing she didn’t want to do
It was pack up all her stuff and her rocker too
In the country (In the country)

People, don't you understand
Jed had a gun in his hand
But he just slipped and missed the shot that day

Take a look and you will see
Now they’re off to Beverly
Swimming pools, movie stars
Look at Elly May!

Well the banjo plays
To indicate these country folk
Are gonna be the butt of all the jokes
In the city (In the city)

And they won’t return
So they buy themselves a house with a cement pond
Just to keep all the critters and the dunce and the blonde
In the city (In the city)

Once they’d reached their destination
A banker came their way
He got their cash, they moved next door
Forty million dollars and he wants more…
Mrs. Drysdale cries

And Dash Riprock, a handsome young man
Wants to date a pretty member of the Clampett clan
In the city (In the city)

Time to say goodbye
Wanna thank you folks fer kindly droppin in
Now here’s some advice from Jed and his kin:
Take your shoes off (Take your shoes off)

Have some possum pie

Nice take on one of my all-time favorite TV shows. Is there a name for the category of songs that can be sung to each others melodies: Amazing Grace, Gilligan's Island, Little Town of Bethlehem, American the Beautiful, House of the Rising Sun, Ghost Riders in the Sky. Or Marine Corps Hymn, My Darling Clementine, Ode to Joy (Beethoven's 9th Symphony. Or the one that came to me in a dream one night: Danny Boy and the Nazi "Horst Wessel Lied".
