"21st Century Elvis, Part VI: Steroids the Shame"

Parody Written by:

Michael Pacholek

The Lyrics

A series exploring situations that Elvis Presley might be in if, as many believe, he actually is still alive at the age of (believe it!) 72. He was from Memphis, and that's St. Louis Cardinals territory. Harry Caray, once the voice of the Cards and the ABA's Memphis Tams, claimed that Elvis once called him up, told him what a big fan of his he was, and invited him to Graceland. Imagine if Elvis saw the Cards win the 2006 World Series. Better yet, imagine if he saw Mark McGwire, and what he became as a Card... and what he's become as an ex-Card.
(instrumental opening)

A very old friend
went to D.C.
and he was telling all those Congressmen
not to talk about this again:
Steroids are the shame
of the greatest game.

He talked and talked
and I heard him say
that he's not here to talk about the past.
He left everyone aghast.
Steroids are the shame
of the greatest game.

Though I smiled, he's no longer my hero.
I wished him luck and then he said goodbye.
He did not look as bad as Palmeiro.
But still McGwire made so many cry.

Would you believe
back in the day
this guy was in the park and swung away
home runs that now make us say
"Steroids are the shame
of the greatest game."

Though I realize the burden he'll carry
to Hall of Fame chance, he has said goodbye.
Sosa blew it, by the way, where's Barry?
What else was there for me to do but cry?

Would you believe
back in the day
this guy was in the park and swung away
home runs that now make us say
"Steroids are the shame
of the greatest game."
Steroids are the shame
of the greatest game.
Steroids are the shame
of the greatest game.
(repeat 'til fade)

Very clever parody Sir, Michael and I do agree it is the Greatest Game, if I were to ever be so inclined . . . But my point is this: Why is the US government even involved ?? If it is the greatest game, then it need not require taxpayers' support !!! Thus the use of drugs, steroids, or T-juiice is the owners problem, not a congressional one. Oh . . sigh . . . .
