Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

This is dedicated to Susanna Viljanen and is about the 1956 collison of the SS Andria Doria liner and the MS Stockholm...
SS Andrea Doria
Crossing from Genoa
Bound for New York
1706 aboard her

MS Stockholm
Headed for Gothenberg, Sweden
Was a clear day at first
And then the fog set-in

Approaching head-on
Combined speed of 40 knots
Using radar, without communication
Misinterpreted each others plots

Collision, collision!!!
Alert!!! Bad decisions!!!
Collision, collision!!!
Alert!!! Bad decisions!!!

SS Andrea Doria
Steered hard to port
MS Stockholm
To starboard collision course!

Fog was too think
For visual sighting, like Titanic
And then the sudden impact
11:10 pm a panic!

MS Stockholm’s prowl
Ripped apart Doria’s starboard side
40 feet down to the keel
For 30 secs they were intertwined

Collision, collision!!!
Alert!!! Bad decisions!!!
Collision, collision!!!
Alert!!! Bad decisions!!!

Then they moved apart
Doria’s fuel tanks were ruptured
Although low for the journey
Took in 500 tons of sea water!

MS Stockholm’s bow was ripped off
But she still survived
SS Andre Doria started to list
18 then 20o starboard side
(Lifeboats not available for lives)

SS Andria Doria
Sent out an SOS
"SOS DE ICEH SOS HERE AT 0320 GMT LAT. 40.30 N 69.53
WE NEED IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE"

Collision, collision!!!
Alert!!! Bad decisions!!!
Collision, collision!!!
Alert!!! Bad decisions!!!

SS Ile de France,
Turned backed to save lives
Arrived three hours later
Helped rescue those who survived

9am July 26, 1956
Captain abandoned ship
9:45 she started to sink
By 10:09 under the water she slipped

The collision cost 46 souls
Plus 5 on MS Stockholm
All the rescue ships arrived in NY
Some survivors reunited, others alone

Collision, collision!!!
Alert!!! Bad decisions!!!
Collision, collision!!!
Alert!!! Bad decisions!!!

A preventable tragedy
Radar misidentification
Compounded by
A lack of radio communication

Reforms were enacted to remedy this situation
Followed by many nations

A damn shame what happened, was world news back then when I was a kid. The song brought it all back. Tragic, but high marks for content.

I remember once I think about a cruise ship that stayed afloat nearly 4 hours before it sank... I am not quite sure of the name, But I did a book report on it in school.
