DKTOS? video here. Newbies... we've all been one at some point, though chances are if you are reading this you've made considerable progress since those days. Sometimes I get the feeling that leaving a comment under a new author's not-so-stellar parody is less productive than talking to my cat. . .

I like the OS... as a "newbie" myself I took little offense. I didn't find the song all that funny though. Props on the pacing. Take 534 lines for yourself and ignore the fact that I wish I can come up with something half decent.

Can't say I get the Columbine reference, but yeah, there's some odd stuff gets posted here. It never ceases to amaze me the ability of some people to delude themselves into thinking they are talented. For proof, watch American Idol. But you get 5s.

Andrew: I seem to be in the odd spot these days of having lots of ideas but little time to write them.

McKludge, Aggy and Mason: I admit the Columbine line was off-color and intentionally so for two reasons: one being that only newbs would put that in and expect good scores (hence the parenthetical line that follows it) and two that some (many? most?) newb authors can get massacred (or praised) in the comments field and still not learn anything from it. I don't see why some check the comments box at all...

Jonathan: Nope, not about you.

Ann: I think that everyone can learn something new from a parody, whether it be an idea for a parody of your own, some new trick or improvement, a style or format change or sometimes what NOT to do.

Michael: I'm flattered to be called a veteran by you. It doesn't seem all that long ago I was a newbie. I've come a long way since my earliest works, and if I can do it, I figure most anyone else can as well.

2Eagle: I think it might have been Paul Robinson who once said something to the effect of "any idiot can rhyme 'suck' with 'f***'". I tend to like parodies that are a bit more on the edgy side, but I see your point, especially about the "witty" part.

Peter: I guess this parody could be considered a condensed version of that thread... which is good, because listing everything out at this point would be a small book. =)

Stu: I agree completely. And there has been a lot of newer authors this year, especially as of late, who are definitely exceptions to this parody.

Jack .I like the ref to 3 minutes of our time. One flaw, however - the ref to Columbine makes that part of the parody void of any humor. But I'm not countng you down for that line. It's still 5 material.

And yes I am entering this round - I just can't find the right CCR parody of mine to use. I have a choice from 42 of them. I wish I could enter several of them.

(Artistry) Excellent writing, though the Columbine line is pretty jarring (as you intended). If you wanted to travel the more PC path, you could have written something like "They think we'll laugh and whoop / As we read about their poop" . :-) Very proficient work, both a training manual and a great example of the craft.

I've reread Jack's parody this morning and caught the ref that you are speaking of. I did give him two points in the ART 55 comp. Still, he should have done something different as Rex suggested.. Given the huge number of people that hit this site it is a sure bet that there are people who knew some of the Columbine victims. You need to consider who your audience may be. It's the six degrees of seperation model. Ref:

(Artistry) As a whole I thought this was a good write, though some of the individual lines (like the reference to Columbine for example) seemed a little random or harsh on newbies in general. I think we all learn from expert writers such as yourself and how to appreciate variety and such, unfortunately 90% of newbies have no interest in actually improving their skills and an almost equal number of veterans are not there to show the newbies the ropes, which can get frustrating on both ends. Overall a 5-4-5 as I didn't really get any big laughs, good write but not out of the ballpark funny.
