Parody Song Title:

"Hello Dolly"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

"Dolly" Draper was a famous spin doctor for Tony Blair and the New Labour Government
DTI is the Department of Trade and Industry (A UK Government Department)
You want inside information
confidentiality
You're a global corporation
You need markets to be free

Well my name is Dolly Draper*
And I know everyone you see
If it's influence you're after
You can just leave that to me

I understand your situation
not keen on paying tax
monopolistic aspirations - that's cool
our laws here are rather lax

you need a slight amendment
An exemption .. just a waiver?
Just hold on for a minute
I've got Tony on my pager

You can forget about the DTI*
They're rather out of favour
But me and Gordon-- see eye to eye
I've got a hot line to New Labour

you love globalisation
Your hot money's got itchy feet
And you adore deregulation
It helps to keep your bankers sweet

You wanna make a small donation?
Half a million - sure that's fine
Of course we'll never hit tax havens
We know where to draw the line

Sir Elton and Oasis
Are round at Tony's place tonight
If you want to party come on down
I think the time is right

Excellent parody, Martha. How did Mr. Draper get the nickname "Dolly"?
Martha - June 14, 2004 - Report this comment
Thanks for the comments John.. not sure why he was called Dolly other than as a reference to his sexual orientation...

Loved the rhyming but there are numerous political parodies that would defecate on this one humour-wise. 5-3-4

My political knowledge is nil, so I can't really understand....pacing was good, I know that much though.
martha - June 15, 2004 - Report this comment
..Jake .. this one was in fact written to ilustrate a chapter from a book(not mine) rather just purely as a humourous item...so fair comment!..

My knowledge of the original is spotty, and I'm unfamiliar with the situation(s) you're describing, so I'm pretty much worthless to you here. So I'll just drop in and say "Hello Martha."

(ABC) I am going to have to pass on this one since I had a terrible time following the pacing. I only knew the Stones version, so I went and got the Chuck Berry lyrics and they were pretty much the same. But no matter how much I tried I could not get:

"monopolistic aspirations – that’s cool"

to fit:

"she's the only one who'd phone me here"

which should be the corresponding line...

many thanks for the comments and for testing the pacing...The pacing thing is funny .. everything I write is primariy written for performance purposes and driven by an agenda beyond wordplay for its own sake .. ie to illustrate a chapter in a book ...as in this case . But I always try them out myself before reaching a final draft and I can always sing them... somehow .. it may take a bit of coming in before the beat occasionally and singing a bit fast sometimes or eliding the odd word or two .....but I may sacrifice precise pacing(I am not even quite sure how that is defined) to making a paricular point / joke or because I like a particular rhyme . but hey its all just for fun!

Decent, but tough for me to judge personally not knowing British politics.
