Parody Song Title:

"Elvis"

Parody Written by:

Alvin Rhodes

The Lyrics

long driftin' transformation...spiffy elvis went to seed
too long he had partied with the downers and the speed
he needed some to slumber, even more for wake up calls
and he had a special doctor with prescriptions for them all

what a transformation...out of touch with things, was he
when he started up that film career, why couldn't elvis see...
those films were on the bad side....formulaic scripts
just a half a star from those critics who would rip

made the transformation...from the rock career he had
starred in motion pictures folks considered very bad
why'd he take these parts ?...was it that colonel tom's foul deed ?
angry fans sure pissed and moaned when elvis went to seed

the last time we saw poor he...he had waved those films goodbye
became an lounge act, oh so weak, quite sickenin' to eye
when he reached forty-two years old...livin' by this creed
no wonder that his death occurred...ol' elvis went to seed

A parody, sadly, far too fit for this King. But some great transpositions in this one. Maybe, before Elvis planted that seed, someone should've told him, "Kill it before it grows."

A sad ending for a once-great talent. I recommend Warren Zevon's "Heavenly Mansions" and "Porcelain Monkey," respectively about the deification and decline of The King.

thanks michael and john....i hear ya....i loved the early elvis stuff....after the army stint....it was all bad tunes and worse movies...i always thought there was some government plan to ruin rock n roll in the 50s....the stars either went into the service, were plagued by scandal, sent to jail or crippled or killed in planes or cars....think about it !

Sir Alvin, Duke of Roads, you may have something there . . . Your anaysis seems correct about the 50's music, and its rather quick demise!! My dad's favorite was < That's All Right Mama >

thanks littleCupCakes....yeah, its WAY too much to be coincidence...."that's all right mama" is a rockin' little number to be sure

Sir Alvin, one more tune from Elvis, Sir, that really brings tears 'Americana' to my eyes: < Dixie combo with Battle Hymn of the Republic > I believe he recorded this very late in his Vegas years, although I've never been east of Lake Michigan, this song really tugs at my heart, it's really a very moving tribute about the ~USA~
