The Lyrics

The events described herein, described by Meadow, have not actually happened on "The Sopranos." Yet. The character of Philly Joe Gianelli is totally fictional. Aren't they all?
It was the third of June, another steamy, soupy Jersey day.
I was doin' my homework and my brother was tokin' jay.
At dinner time we stopped and walked down to the kitchen to eat.
And Mama hollered up the stairs, "A.J., your head is like concrete!"
And then she said, "I heard the radio when I was cleaning out the fridge.
Today Philly Joe Gianelli jumped off the George Washington Bridge."

And Daddy said to Mama as he passed around the garlic bread,
"Well, Philly Joe never had a lick of sense, just thick in the head.
Y'see, dem young guys ain't got no respect for big goombahs like me these days."
And Mama said it was a shame about Philly Joe, anyways.
Seems like Daddy's friends always end up ice cold like they're in the fridge.
And now Philly Joe Gianelli's jumped off the George Washington Bridge.

And A.J. said he remembered when Dad and Bobby and ol' Phil
went out to Maplewood and called on Ralphie 'bout outstanding bills.
And wasn't I talkin' to him after church at the Sunday Mass?
"I'll have some more manicotti, y'know, Mom, this whole thing burns my ass.
I saw him at the Bada-Bing last night, talkin' to that stripper Midge.
I wonder, did he jump, or was he pushed right off the George Washington Bridge?"

And Mama said to me, "Meadow, what's happened to your appetite?
Doncha get that anorexia, I just won't have you lookin' light.
That nice young priest, Father Bruno, dropped by today.
Said he'd be pleased to have dinner on Sunday. Oh, by the way
He said he saw a girl that looked like you with an older guy in Glen Ridge
And he followed those two all the way up to the George Washington Bridge."

A year has come and gone since we heard the news 'bout Philly Joe.
And A.J.'s down at Rutgers where he's majoring in brew and blow.
Paulie Walnuts ratted Daddy out and he went to Leavenworth last spring.
And now Mama goes out to the mall and picks a guy to have a fling.
And me, I spend a lot of time pickin' rocks off the Palisades' ridge
And drop them into the Hudson River off the George Washington Bridge.
If I get a 1-1-1 on this sucker, remember: I'm from North Jersey. I know people. I got guys. Youse has been warned.

Man, folks are being way too tough on this!! You picked a classic and had fun with it. Funny, I just heard this song (the original, I mean) on the radio today for the first time in ages. This parody was a good chuckle!
