Parody Song Title:

"New Year's Resolutions"

Parody Written by:

The Lyrics

You made your New Year's Resolutions
Well you know
In a month you'll break them all
A diet and you're sticking to it?
Well, you know
You don't want to change at all
Cuz all your talk about reduction
Doesn't seem to budge you off your couch

Really soon you're gonna see, I'm right
I'm right, I'm right

You say you're gonna quit your boozin'
Well you know
That includes your favorite draught
Just saying it is no solution
Well you know
It'll take much more than that
Cuz when you still party with people
In drunken states
A little peer pressure and brother
That's all it takes

And you know it's not a breeze, I'm right
I'm right, I'm right

For cravings they make subtitutions
Well, you know
It's still nicotine, my friend
You swear this time you'll really do it
Well, you know
You've never practiced what you've said
And though it's been weighing so heavily
On your brow
You ain't gonna break it by making
A silly vow

Really soon you're gonna see, I'm right
I'm right, I'm right

I'm right (x8)

Good choice of material for this one, Melhi. Has anyone EVER kept a New Year's resolution?
Melhi - December 25, 2003 - Report this comment
Thanks David! I, personally, have never known anyone who kept one longer than a month.
Mari D - December 25, 2003 - Report this comment
Good work, Melhi! I've kept one New Year's resolution: Don't make any New Year's resolutions!
Melhi - December 25, 2003 - Report this comment
Thanks Mari! You know, I've never made one (excepting joke resolutions when someone's insisted I *have* to make them, like it's a law or something) and so far, it's worked out really well for me, too. I'm not any grouchier than usual through January and I don't feel like a complete failure through February.

Fantastic job, Melhi! My New Year's resolution for next year will be to write no Celine Dion parodies at all in 2004. I might just pull this one off. Fives, mate.

Thanks Aussie! Hope you stick to that resolution! :) :)

I hereby resolve to never miss another Melhi parody (unless I'm really busy. Or I don't know the song. Or there are a lot of songs that day. Or I just don't feeeeel like it....) Great stuff; this idea matches up extremely well to the song.
Melhi - December 26, 2003 - Report this comment
Thanks Billy, Pippin and Claude! :)

My New Year's resolution is to write one as good as this. Or two. Or two hundred. Or have I just become the King of Wishful Thinking?
Melhi - December 26, 2003 - Report this comment
Aw Michael, thanks, you're a sweetie! I'm sure your next 200 will be as good as this one or better and I look forward to reading all of them. :)

I think this was the best parody I've read of the last few days submissions. It is a perfect parody. The pacing is excellent - the humor just right. Sometimes I vote 5s a bit haphazardly, but this one absolutely deserves 'em! Keep up the good work Melhi!

Wow, thanks for the great compliment, Merry!

As a huge fan of yours, Melhi, I totally agree with you about New Year resolutions (though once I kept one for 11 months!) My view now is : if you're going to do something, just do it - there's no point waiting till January 1.
Melhi - December 29, 2003 - Report this comment
Thanks, Jess! I didn't know I had a fan... I'm glad you enjoy my stuff! Wow, 11 months is very impressive! I'm with you on "just do it."

Excellent as usual. Now do "Resolution 9."
Paul Robinson - December 30, 2003 - Report this comment
Melhi - When you're right, well, you're right. If I'm going to make a resolution that I really intend to try and keep I make on any day OTHER than New Year's Day, because that's a ready-made excuse for breaking it. I apply the same logic to birthday's...don't care to celebrate that particular day (nothing wrong with it except it's only one day) but the other 364 are all fair game. But maybe that's what happens when you're born on April 1st...couldn't say, it's the only birthday I've ever had. OH, YOU, right...Good work.

Thanks Diva, Spaff & Paul! Hey Diva, I think I know where your 5 lb. went. :) Paul, you have the perfect birthday for a parodist!

This is an excellent piece of work. It really made me reflect on my experiences with people and their New Year's Resolutions. Like this one time my mom came home so drunk that.... But I don't want to bore you with the details of my life. Good parody, here's some fives.
