Original Performer:

Parody Song Title:

"Hues: Bad/Bland Art"

Parody Written by:

John A. Barry

The Lyrics

Canvas is blank as a sailing sheet
framed, it comprises several square feet.
This ain’t the province of an artist of silkscreen
who deals with a medium that we’ve all seen,

making rounds.

What’s he/she do in the field of art?
It is the time to explore
just what’s up in the artists’ arc.
Is it beaux? (That's a beaut.)

Fine art, or does its devolve into kitsch?
Maybe merely middle of the road?
The answer isn’t all that hard to find
if you’re not a critic in aesthetic bind.

Ogle visuals—hues: bland art,
palette is underpowered.
Ogle visuals—hues: bland art;
it’s vulgar, some muse.

Ogle visuals—hues: bad art. . .
palette is not admired.
Chalk artists’ work is much more pure,
you will see when you view.

Glowering, I look at it from all ways:
it looks just like Kinkade kitsch pastiche before he passed away.
Is smacks of atelier à la carte. . .
metaphysical question: what is art?!

Crap from K-Mart?!

Ontology isn’t far
from this query about art.
But now I need to depart
and return to what’s viewed.

So, McLuhan
or else the wigged man—
one or the other originated this aphor-ism;
like it; it’s snide.
You can take either one’s side.*

The purchasers of The Kramer are intellectual snobs, and Larry David artistically outs their pretensions. Art is not aggressively cerebral. It is simple and forthright, taking the fewest strokes possible to reach the unconscious, whether in painting or parody. Wordsmith, take heed.

JAB, don't mind Critic who is wrong. Many art forms require complex planning and execution that may take months, years, or a lifetime to achieve. Those that work in unconventional art with metal, glass, and other exotic materials often go for a very complex visual effect or mind-blowing psychological impact. Your parodies are works of linguistic art which sometimes read like subtle poetry or can baffle the parodists of the mundane. Critic is just jealous, but at least credits you as a "Wordsmith!" I believe your style comes naturally to you w/o need of heavy referencing. Likewise, Milspeak comes natural to me as well as the unconventional and obscure with no need of referencing at all nor even planning. I just write off the top of my head about whatever comes to mind. Right now I'm thinking about Venezuelan body-enhanced mannequins and Blockbuster shutting all its remaining stores! And maybe using one of Younha's songs from KPOP! 555!

I don't mind a bit, Rob. Everyone's a critic, all entitled to their opinion. Thanks for the kind words. I tend to write the same way as you.

Beware the talentless sycophant who will promote himself under your umbrella, but only until his numbers exceed yours.

@Critic, what's the matter... been proven wrong once again? I am not the first nor will be the last here at AiR to do a parody-of-a-parody and my style of writing is much different than JAB's. Each one of our PoPs uses different topics and language. JAB writes artistically and linguistically challenging lines. I write masses of technical terms and lines of data. I also follow chronologies in historical warfare or write about little-known things. Your pathetic effort to divide and conquer has failed. Identify yourself and post your author page if you really think you are better. You won't b/c it is YOU hiding under the umbrella of "Critic"... which anyone can be. All you have presented thus far is opinion which makes you a worthless commentator/spectator.

@Rob -- I'm on board with Critic. You want facts and here's one: I have perused your author pages and have found an embarrassing paucity of hits. Many authors have gotten more hits on six-month-old submissions than you have gotten on your parodies written two years ago. One would think that the extensive mention of your name and your daily posts would drive readers to your page. Just the opposite: they drive them away. Your stuff appeals to a couple of AIR members who share your narrow interest. Why don't you write in your usual excruciating detail about stamp collecting? That would be as singable as discourses on Nazi weapon specifications.

Don't brag about the high scores you used to get. Scores are nonsense, and you know it. And please don't write another essay about the variety of your sources. I give you credit for avoiding war and weapons as your only topic, and not falling into the "zombie" trap that has undone another parodist.

Since JAB returned, you have kissed up to him like a puppy dog. When he was gone, you complained that while you got flak for using the same OS endlessly, no such criticism was aimed at JAB.

Many "vets" claim the privilege of anonymity for an obvious reason: they wish to maintain objectivity toward their work. Nevertheless, their comments are informed opinions, the worth of which readers other than lovers of war and military minutiae can evaluate.

"Linguistically challenging lines" tend not to entertain. Neither do footnotes and explanatory prefaces that are many times longer than the parody, which simply condenses the preface.

AC, blah, blah, blah... more wannabe site celeb pontification. Come back with your own author page and under you own name. When it comes to knowledge you are not in my league and I can guarantee that my topic diversity and artist diversity are greater than yours anyday.

The author of the parody has authorized comments, and wants YOUR feedback.
