The Lyrics

One thing you might notice in the neighbourhood in the morning, if you're up early for work or school, is how a lot of men who look like they wish they were still asleep are dragging around a lot of mutts who in turn look like they should have been put to sleep a long time ago. So why haven't they? Well, the reasons for this are three, the first is that their kids don't allow them to (because they grew so enormously attached to them as puppies during those five weeks after Christmas many years ago when they were the ones who got up and walked them in the morning), the second is that their wives don't allow them to (because they fear that ditching something just because it has gotten old, and possibly get a new and younger one instead, might give their husbands general ideas) and the third is that those men themselves don't allow them to (because those limping and demented fleabags are the only excuse they still have to get out of the house on their own, especially in the early bird's morning while breakfasts, beds and lunchboxes in some mysterious, magic and possibly dangerous way are making themselves back inside). Old dogs might not be able to learn new tricks but because of all this they surely are among the best niched survivors in nature!

I find my dog on the road again
Near a postal bike crashed into a barbed wire fence
I could've sworn he was following me
To the neighbourhood corner dog latrine
I tight the leash, try to hold him near
Then feel a yank, he's outta there
Then I fall on my shoe string and the cur's in a shop
I must try to get him home before they call the cops

He stinks, he's flawed
And leaves his ID on the floor
When time's to go
He barks uptight and there's no ending

I'm stuck (stuck) with ol' Yeller now
Still I am stuck with ol' Yeller
I'm stuck (stuck) with ol' Yeller now
Still I am stuck with ol' Yeller

Woof, woof, woof, woof
Woof, woof, woof, woof
Woof, woof, woof, woof
Woof, woof, woof, woof

Coming home from work and outside it's dark
I stumble on the dog, hit a garden cart
Then a bitch' barking awkward and my leg is spurred
He's a sterilized mongrel so it's quite absurd

He stinks, he's flawed
But he's a memory from the yore
When time's to go
His ticks be remembered at the kennel

I'm stuck (stuck) with ol' Yeller now
Still I am stuck with ol' Yeller
I'm stuck (stuck) with ol' Yeller now
Still I am stuck with ol' Yeller

Is this the time the vet he'll see?
Is that the DEATH OF MUTTS with fleas?
Is it time to go embark Dog Heaven's chase of automobiles?
I don't wanna yet make him a backyard fill
Just tell the canine "sod off"

Woof, woof, woof, woof
Woof, woof, woof, woof
Woof, woof, woof, woof
Woof, woof, woof, woof

I'm stuck (stuck) with ol' Yeller now
Still I am stuck with ol' Yeller
I'm stuck (stuck) with ol' Yeller now
Still I am stuck with ol' Yeller
I'm stuck (stuck) with ol' Yeller now
Still I am stuck with ol' Yeller
I'm stuck (stuck) with ol' Yeller now
And I will keep that ol' mongrel!

(SOTM) I didn't lyrics check it, but it did seem to fit with the YouTube video. I liked it... Did anyone like Ol' Yeller? 5's

555 I do agree, as my Scottie is 12 years old now, but terriers tend to be active far longer than the larger breeds. Fortunately, she is litter-box (low-sided cookie sheet lined with newspaper) trained for those early morning calls!

(SOTM) Very original, I thought you were going to go with the Disney movie, but this was pretty funny. Favorite line: "Is it time to go embark Dog Heaven's chase of automobiles?"

"Stuck With Aladdin" Aggy? And screw what Napoleon Dynamite says at the end of that music video that original song and video rock. If there's one thing you're got at it's finding amazing original songs to parody, but you've got the best of both worlds great original songs and great lyrics.

(SOTM-JAN) Leaving his ID was my fave line. Well done Peter. And I love pet parodies myself - I've written a few. I have 3 Border Collies so I can really appreciate this.

Hee hee! Now, if this were about Garfield, I'd be a ball of claws (lol).

(SOTM) Clever! Not really a fan of dogs myself (I'm more a cat person - though I think I'm allergic to 'em), but this I like. 555 for you!

Reminds me a bit of "Ulysses" by Jake Thackray.. in tone, though not in tune (it might be kind of hard to find). Didn't like the OS, have to admit, but this was fun
Jeff Reuben - February 29, 2008 - Report this comment
This dog lover approves as well. It's a dog eat dog world out there...maybe a dog eat owner world too. Well done.

(SOTM) The OS you took on must have been a pain to come up with a good idea for. . .so good job overall. As a comedy I'd say above average, A little much of the OS was kept in, but you made it work with your topic so that's ok.
Invisible Boy - February 29, 2008 - Report this comment
I once had a dog with no legs. Everyday I took him out for a drag.
Remember, Ol' Yeller was the "best doggone dog in the west"
lot's of funny lines, and a great idea.
