The Lyrics

One of the challenges a parody writer faces is what to do with an original song that uses a repetitive tag line. Should you repeat it or try to add some variety? See Tommy Turtle's comments on my rendition of "Mother in Law". I was thinking about this dilemma the other night as I was driving home. Then, on the radio, I heard a song which basically consists of the same verse repeated five times. Repetition? That which follows is the same as that which came before. And another word for that is: "cloning". As my long time "fans" know, I still haven't given up on my dreams of world conquest at the head of an army of clones of myself. So here I go again.
Here I go
Here I go again
And here I go again
Cloning on my brain
A goal I must attain

Here they come
Here they come again
My joy I can't constrain
An endless human chain
From my genetic strain

Here they are
Dupes* that I must train
A budgetary strain
These costs I must contain
Six pence a piece I'm payin'

Here we go
Off to war again
We go insane
Kill and maim
They all follow in my train
A kingly crown to gain
Their harps not torn in twain

Here we come
Home from war again
A jaunty march refrain
The wounded and the slain?
I'll clone some more again

There I go
Where I go
Stubbed my toe
Astute musicologists might note how I did a little "gene splicing" taking lyrics from "The Minstrel Boy" and "The Son of Man Goes Forth to War" which are slightly different songs with the same tune. *Dupe: collector term for "duplicate". Also, someone you can trick into doing your bidding. Either interpretation could apply here. The last verse sort of reminds me of "And The Band Played 'Waltzing Matilda'", by Eric Bogle, perhaps the greatest anti-war song of all time. Several good versions on youtube. Check it out.

Really well written, I know it can be tough with repetitive songs

... And you've proven that it *can* be done. (It's OK to use a rhyming dictionary, really, if the ol' brain gets fried.)
Jonathan S. took a parody that had the same main line repeated 13 times, and, based on TT's previous advice, found clever and funny subs for them all. More challenge for the writer, more interesting for the reader. 555
