Song Parodies -> "Drinving A Rolling Toaster"

Original Song Title:

"Life Is A Roller Coaster"

Original Performer:

Ronan Keating

Parody Song Title:

"Drinving A Rolling Toaster"

Parody Written by:

Merry & Pippin

The Lyrics

Merry & Pippin released their first parody on 5 March 2003. It has been a long journey from those early days. As today marks our ten year anniversary, and traditionally, tin or aluminium ('aluminum' for a North American perspective) is the nature of the gift, the following parody (and the two others released today) is/are loosely about subjects made of those metals. Thank you for all the wonderful memories and friends we have had/do have at AmiRight.

We are away at present for a number of reasons but we will be back. Couldn't let the anniversary go unnoticed.

Original song on YouTube

Not sporty!
Not roomy from the boot to the lid
Not sexy!
Those advertisers: who do they kid?
The angle of shot: one scene – ‘size’ wants to bestow
Endeavour to fool
Sell me - ‘cus I’m kinda slow...

It gets miles
Can’t de-ny it
Drivin’ a rolling toaster
I try ta hide it
Don’t bleed fuel
It’s top mileage
A practical fam’ly spree car
All cramped inside it !

Old Chevy
That’s really made of metal’d be tight! (draggin’ tonight!)
Old Mopar
The horsepower of muscle in flight
(Sparks ignite!)
In sixties you knew: one thing - cars were for show
Impressin’ your bros
No way that I'm goin’ slow

We’re all crushed
So dagnabit
Drivin’ a rolling toaster
(Ain’t no chick-magnet)
It’s not cool
But top mileage
(Can’t wait for the new ’13 year:
It runs on sileage)

Bitchin’:

Give me my old car
Give me real car...
Gladly take a Dart!

It’s too much, d’oh!
So, so plastic
Drivin’ a rolling toaster
Just ain’t fantastic (it’s quite wrong!)
I feel blue
Not excited
Go out and take shit-boxy whirl
Let's jam inside it

Can’t floor it
Floor it, floor it
Abhor it
Bore, it!, Bore, it!
Four door, it:
Swore it: lore, it
(fade)

Here's to another fine ten years for the Master Minstrels of The Shire. ;D

Well said Ribber - I second that.

Are you singing about a Scion xB?

That stood out and made this one a winner, other than the apparently-Oz spelling of "silage" ;). They used to talk a lot about fuel from biomass -- not so much lately. Anyway, look on the bright side of driving a rolling toaster -- the seats are always warm, and when the drive is done, no opening doors, bending, stooping, flashing (darn!), etc. -- you just pop right out!

LOL! Thank everyone! My car inspired this one - I always refer to it as that 'little plastic thing'. Cy - the seats actually are warm - heated seats is all it has going for it. That way one stays nice and toasty while stuck in the snowdrift that it will not maneuver thru.

Cy, I note that Merry conveniently side-stepped (as I suspected would happen) the issue of the spelling of 'Silage', so I shall set the record straight here and now. Merry's line, Merry's spelling! Young people of today, I don't know (shakes head)...

For what it's worth, when Your Humble Servant co-writes parodies with his brilliant partner, Sandy Draft, each proofreads the other's work. Just a thought.

Also, sooner or later it ends up in a format that has spell-check, such as Open Office or MS Word. "Sileage" flagged immediately, and right-clicking suggested two corrections: sileage and mileage. Also just a thought. ;-D
Ty Po - March 16, 2013 - Report this comment
Suggested correction was "silage", of course. Do as I say, not as .... well, it's just a comment, not a parody. ;)
