The Lyrics

I have no idea how this idea came into me head, seriously. Being in a contest sure does strange things to one's imagination. Of course, being generally weird doesn't help things much...*
I was running late for work, man
I put the pedal to the metal, drivin'
Eighty-somethin' down the road, man
I see the coppers in the mirror, thinkin'
"It looks like I got caught speedin'"

I know that I was speedin'
On Highway Sixty-Five
I don't care if I'm speedin'
I don't wanna get fired

I don't want to get in trouble
I don't wanna face a cop with stubble
Makes them look a hardass
It makes you wanna shit in your pants
I've been spotted and caught
I quickly hide my ten-somethingth bottle
I am drink-driving, yes
But I haven't been caught yet

Yeah, yeah, yeah, oh no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, oh no

I'll bet that you didn't know that
I've never driven sober, never will do
And I sometimes am on crack
I do it in my sleep, I don't know how, dude

The first time I've been caught speeding
And I'm drunk and on drugs
Caught for drink-or-speed driving
I can't make my mind up

My time is up, I pull over
I'm not movin' so the cop gets closer
I know that's obvious
But when you're stoned, you're oblivious
To the facts, when on crack
It don't help when you've drunk many bottles
Of Heineken, I guess
It's too blurry to be read

Yeah, yeah, yeah, oh no
Yeah, yeah, yeah, oh no

Cop is tapping on the glass now
I better wind the window down, it's time to
Explain just why I was speedin'
"The reason why I'm speedin': late for work, might get fired"
And the cop started smilin' "Well, that's perfectly fine!"

That's not the end of my story
When I showed up at the Box Factory
My boss asked "Why so late, Gene?"
"A copper let me off for speedin'"
And he laughs, slaps my back
"You're getting closer to a promotion!"
All these rules that I break
And I still ain't been caught yet

Yet, yet, I haven't been caught yet
Yet, yet, no I ain't been caught yet
Yet, yet, still haven't been caught yet
Yet, yet, hells no...
*'Weird' meaning 'Asperger's Syndrome' in my case, but I'm still pretty weird.

Was the cop a friend of yours COP? lol good parody and some nice lines (pardon the pun!) "But when you're stoned, you're oblivious"

I liked the "Obvious"/ "Oblivious" rhyme, the parody was pretty good. Not your best and not your worst just somewhere in the middle for me a few of the lines like, "Makes them look a hardass" threw me off because it paced but you got rid of the world "Like" as in "Like a hardass" to make it fit when you could have replaced it with a different instead to make it fit like, "Makes them look like a prick" and have the same syllable count. Don't worry I used to make that mistake a lot, hope it doesn't seem like I'm lecturing but that has happened to me too many times before.

Good stuff! Some of the pacing may have been a tad rough...I'm not sure. 5-5-5!

AGES...I'm a Nickelback fan...and I like the OS...but this parody didn't do much for me. There were some good lines, and pacing was pretty good...but there have been many others of yours that I've liked a lot more. It's not that I don't like it...I'm just kind of indifferent to it...

(Ages) I disagree with Matt, which I rarely do, I laughed out a few times, much different to your normal work. A pacing burp now and then, but great parody, great song choice, loved the rhymes, and just overall very impressive job dude.

I liked it. But, please don't drink and drive.
Is "drink-driving" an Aussie term ?

Sorry for late, but I liked your story and I one of those who appreciate using words from the original if they fit, like bottle in this case.

Also, the autobots from norway thing is another parody I wrote to the same song that nobody really noticed. It was epic, I thought. Anyhow, I'm sorry about the lateness of this. Won't happen again

[ABC] Great parody, 5s. It was really funny, for the most part, and pacing was pretty darn good, if I remember the original song correctly.

(ABC05I)

I was stopped once for speeding and the officer said that he clocked me at 80 MPH. I told him that was impossible. The cop said, how so? I replied that I hadn't yet been driving for an entire hour. If that officer would have busted you, then you may have had to cop a plea in the amount of $555.00 including court costs. I think I'd have liked this one better if the storyline had been a police chase but I have to give you credit for the expert rhyming in this parody.

Good story line with the song and it went well with the OS.

(ABC): Not bad, good idea, but the pacing seemed really off for me

(ABC) I'm unable to use audio in my judging today...I will take the commentary from the above at their word as guidance. This was a pretty good read as it stands.

(ABC) Nice and random, bobpie, with Heinekin and Box factory. Deserves 555 from the use of the word tensomethingth alone - 555
Leo Keough - June 25, 2009 - Report this comment
Fun story song!...Reminded me of the times I used to drive while under the influence, which fortunately I quit doing before I ever got stopped or hurt someone...555!!!

Very well done pieman. I can't get to an audio track right now but this paces pretty well to my memory. Doin' crack in your sleep: :0

My opinion on this really hasn't changed, I loved the idea, the first stanza was particularly good. I still feel that the pacing had significant blips in the choruses though, and I'll admit on second read the crack/beer jokes didn't mesh as well as the rest of the idea, but I still really like this one.

Not bad...I didn't mind your expanding the idea.
