Well, gee, Marty, you could've saved yourself a lot of frustration, not to mention six minutes of song and at least two bullets near the end of it, if you'd just realized, 'She ain't worth it.' Unless... was she just that good in bed?

The late great country singer/songwriter Marty Robbins was one of my favorites, but even the best stump their toes occasionally. The first half of the first line above is poetic enough, but it's downhill from there. Is this a romantic ballad or an awkward therapy session?

Things have changed somewhat since 1959. Today, use of "Mexican" when referring to ethnicity is often considered disparaging.

The late country singer Marty Robbins was generally likeable and I enjoy a whole lot of his songs. But this is not one of his songs with the greatest of lyrical integrity. Strangely enough, this was what my mother always called one of her favorite of his songs. Perhaps that's because it admittedly is melodically beautiful. But I'm guessing she never listened closely to all the words.

Greenwich Village is a neighborhood in New York City, New York. Incidentally, since the location clearly indicates a setting in the Northern Hemisphere, the reference to "the summer August sun" is a redundancy. In the Northern Hemisphere, summer is the only season in which August can come.

Agua Fria was place along the Agua Fria River and currently within the boundaries of the City of El Mirage. In the 1800s the entire western U.S. was mapped out by the USGS (US Geological Survey). They set markers for future surveying and subdividing by laying out a grid system of Townships (6 miles wide running east/west) and Ranges (6 miles wide running north/south). Each TWP/RGE contained 36 sections of land (1 mile square). Within these USGS maps they also noted populated places. One such place was called Agua Fria. Technically, by current definition, it was not a town. But to the people who lived there I'm sure they thought of it as their town.
